Lavina FFA
We just returned from an incredible week at the Montana State FFA Convention in Bozeman! While we didn’t compete in any events this year, our members had an amazing time participating in workshops, general sessions, industry tours, and of course, the FFA dance! It was a great opportunity for our chapter to connect with other FFA members from across the state, learn more about leadership and agriculture, and experience all that the convention has to offer.
One of the most impactful parts of our trip was getting to take part in the Meals of Hope community service project. Meals of Hope is a non-profit organization committed to bringing communities together to fight hunger. During the convention, FFA members from across Montana worked together to package thousands of nutritious, shelf-stable meals that will go directly to families in need.
We returned home with a full box of these pre-packaged meals, and our chapter has decided to donate them to our local Backpack Program, which helps ensure students in our community have access to food over the weekends.
A special shout-out to Cody Wessel and Everett Somers, who represented Lavina FFA as official voting delegates during the convention. They had the important job of casting votes on new policies and proposals that will impact FFA members across the state. One of the standout topics this year included a discussion on whether cowboy hats should be added as an approved part of Official Dress—a fun and relevant debate for Montana FFA members!
Another highlight of our trip was the opportunity to tour the Montana Silversmiths factory in Columbus. Students got a behind-the-scenes look at how award-winning buckles, jewelry, and accessories are designed and handcrafted. It was an eye-opening experience that connected art, craftsmanship, and agriculture-based industry in a way that inspired all of us!
We’re proud of our chapter for embracing the spirit of service and leadership throughout the convention. Thank you to everyone who supported us on this trip—we’re already looking forward to next year!
